Robust Acoustic Doors are designed to reduce the transference of noise from one area to another.

Acoustic doors are used in many applications to offer privacy or to reduce noise pollution from one area to another. More stringent legislation makes it a requirement to consider the effects of noise pollution on the local environment. Our standard FD and FD-A doors offer a low level of acoustic performance but for higher acoustic performance we custom manufacture doors tested to 35dB, 45dB and 50dB.

Due to the high performance criteria of these doors, they are of a heavy duty design and are a more difficult doorset to install with tighter tolerances than our basic doors. Robust doors have been tested as full installed door systems and should be installed by trained engineers.

If installed incorrectly, the acoustic performance of the door could be reduced significantly, for example, a 5mm gap at the bottom of a door capable of reducing sound transmission by 45dB would result in an overall sound reduction of only 25dB. In other words, 250 times as much sound energy is transmitted underneath the door as through the door.

HOW ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE IS MEASURED
The performance of Robust Acoustic Doors is described as the 'Sound Reduction Index' and is shown as a figure in dBs. It is a weighted average over a range of frequencies prescribed in the BS EN ISO 140-3:1995 standard.

Type dBs Performance Description
'INNA-DOR'* 22 Minimal Speech clearly audible
'OUTA-DOR'* 25 Average
Normal speech understood
AC35 ** 35 Good Loud speech audible but not intelligible
AC45 ** 45 Very Good Loud speech just detectable
AC50 ** 50 Excellent Loud speech barely audible
* Standard general purpose door
** Specific acoustic door

AC 35

AC 35

The AC35 doorset provides a reduction in acoustic transfer through the door of 35 dB, a level at which loud speech is audible but not intelligible. Typically used for sports halls, classrooms and in commercial / industrial applications with similar sound levels. These doors have been tested to BS EN ISO 140-3: 1995.

Robust Doors can offer a level of acoustic attenuation from 22 to 54 dB by varying the infill of the door blade and frames. The higher levels of acoustic performance are achieved with custom manufactured doorsets using four-sided frames and acoustic seals.

AC 45

AC 45

The AC45 doorset provides a reduction in acoustic transfer through the door of 45 dB, a level at which loud speech is just detectable. Commonly used in music, rehearsal rooms and in commercial / industrial applications with similar sound levels.

AC 50

AC 50

The AC50 doorset provides a reduction in acoustic transfer through the door of 50 dB, a level at which loud speech is barely audible. Usually used for studios, auditoriums, cinemas, theatres, and in commercial / industrial applications with similar sound levels. These doors have been tested to BS EN ISO 140-3: 1995.
